History: Bethel Armenian Evangelical Church

Bethel grew from Aleppo’s Armenian refugee community after the 1915 genocide. Pastor Haroutune Selimian describes an early wooden hall serving both church and school, with classrooms divided by curtains. The later church underwent a substantial renovation, and the Armenian Missionary Association of America records the rededication of its sanctuary on 7 January 2011.

An interesting detail

Armenian Apostolic, Catholic and Evangelical church leaders participated in the 2011 rededication; Bethel’s Yerakhdik choir followed the ceremony with a Christmas programme.
