History: Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator

Saint Gregory the Illuminator is an Armenian church in Aleppo’s Al-Midan district. The Research on Armenian Architecture archive records construction and commemorative inscriptions dated 1933 on the building. Its photographs of the exterior and interior, taken by Raffi Kortoshian in 2006, document a twentieth-century church whose own stone inscriptions preserve its early history.

An interesting detail

The archive also separately records the church’s baptismal font and its commemorative inscription dated 1933, connecting a liturgical furnishing with the building’s dated inscriptions.
