History: Church of Saint Francis of Assisi
Saint Francis of Assisi serves Aleppo’s Latin parish in Aziziyeh under the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land. A parish priest’s account records a blast during Mass on 25 October 2015: the dome held, the explosion damaged the exterior, and the congregation finished the celebration in the garden. The Custody later documented priestly ordinations here in July 2024.
An interesting detail
On 6 July 2024, Franciscan twins George and Johnny Jallouf were ordained in their childhood parish of Saint Francis; the Custody described it as the parish’s first priestly ordination in seventeen years.
