History: Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Elijah the Prophet

The Cathedral of Elijah the Prophet is the Greek Orthodox cathedral associated with Aleppo’s archdiocese. The Patriarchate of Antioch documents a major event in its history on 11 December 2021: Patriarch John X presided over the Divine Liturgy for the enthronement of Ephraim Maalouli as metropolitan of Aleppo, Alexandretta and their dependencies, with bishops and clergy from several dioceses participating.

An interesting detail

A photograph taken in January 2011 shows two square towers framing the entrance and a three-arched porch, architectural features that distinguish this cathedral from Aleppo’s Maronite church of the same saint.
