History: Cathedral of Our Mother of Reliefs
Aleppo’s Armenian Catholic Cathedral of Our Mother of Reliefs was built in 1840 using an older Aleppine house. Wartime strikes damaged its domes and ceilings during 2013–2016. After reconstruction supported by church institutions and international donors, it reopened with a consecration liturgy on 8 December 2019, an event reported through an interview with Archbishop Boutros Marayati.
An interesting detail
The house incorporated into the church dates to 1603; the reported courtyard-and-dome arrangement links the cathedral with Aleppo’s domestic architectural tradition.
