History: Our Lady of the Annunciation Melkite Church, Ramallah

Ramallah’s Melkite parish began in 1895, while the present church developed in the mid-twentieth century. Hanna Issa’s local history records land purchase and church building in 1951. Academic research independently places Ramallah among the churches built under Bishop Gabriel Abu-Saada, whose episcopate ran from 1948 to 1965.

An interesting detail

Issa records the addition of a school building in 1962. The parish’s educational role is also documented in CNEWA’s 2018 funding schedules for the Our Lady of the Annunciation Greek Catholic School.
