History: Saint Joseph Church, Jifna
Jifna's Latin parish began with a modest house used for residence, school and Sunday prayers after Father Bartholomew Kardito arrived in September 1855. Plans for a church, clergy house and school were drawn up in 1857, and construction began the following year. Saint Joseph's church became the worship centre of this educational parish complex, which developed further through later classrooms and a shared parish hall.
An interesting detail
The parish school's history records that in 1970 a parish hall also served the school, with modern classrooms built above it: worship and education shared the same premises.
