History: Saint George Orthodox Church, Jifna
Jifna's Saint George church serves the Arabic-speaking Greek Orthodox community of the Jerusalem Patriarchate. An electrical fire on 10 March 2017 damaged its altar and central interior, and services moved temporarily to the adjacent hall. After restoration, Patriarch Theophilos blessed the church's reopening on 26 May 2017. This standing parish church is distinct from the village's exposed Byzantine church remains.
An interesting detail
The Patriarchate describes a Nativity relief above the entrance dating to 1854 and a large old baptismal font beside the doorway—surviving details of the church's earlier history.
