History: Saint Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church, Zahlé
Zahlé's Armenian congregation initially used the Greek Orthodox church of Saint Nicholas. In 1927, benefactor Parsegh Balekjian purchased land where rooms provided a chapel. He then financed a stone church, built in the summer of 1928 and dedicated to Gregory the Illuminator in memory of his father, Grigor.
An interesting detail
The donor linked the church's dedication to his father's name, Grigor.
