A brief history
Saint Paul’s Basilica in Harissa belongs to the Melkite Greek Catholic tradition and the Missionaries of Saint Paul. Its foundation stone was laid in 1947, the main structure was completed in 1968, and the church was consecrated on 25 July 1998. Mardiros Altonian designed the Byzantine-inspired building. Its mosaics bring together saints and church leaders from Eastern and Western traditions, reflecting the community’s commitment to Christian unity.

Pope Benedict XVI signed the apostolic exhortation Ecclesia in Medio Oriente here on 14 September 2012, during his visit to Lebanon.
