History: Saint George Maronite Church, Hammana
Saint George was the third Maronite church built in Hammana. Construction began in the late nineteenth century and took several years. The building was enlarged in the 1960s and restored in 2010, when stonework was exposed and stained-glass windows were installed. Behind the altar, an image of Saint George slaying the dragon uses the traditional Christian symbol of the victory of good over evil.
An interesting detail
The cross crowning the bell tower is designed so that its four arms can be seen from different angles.
