History: Saint Domitius Maronite Church, Bourj Hammoud
The municipality traces this church to the Maronite settlement of Bourj Hammoud in the early seventeenth century. A church dedicated to Saint Domitius was built in the middle of that century and later rebuilt as the local population grew. It gave its name to the Mar Doumit quarter, predating the town's twentieth-century Armenian neighbourhoods.
An interesting detail
The Mar Doumit quarter takes its name from this historic Maronite church.
