History: Saint John the Baptist Church, Muristan
The Greek Orthodox church of Saint John the Baptist stands in Jerusalem’s Muristan above an older underground structure. In 2010 and 2011, the École Biblique investigated its basement before restoration, revisiting architectural questions studied by earlier Jerusalem archaeologists.

Jean-Baptiste Humbert published the excavation study in 2016, distinguishing the buried structure from the church visible above it.
