History: Bethphage Church
The Franciscan church at Bethphage commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. In 1870, a villager uncovered a painted Crusader stone depicting the raising of Lazarus and the triumphal entry. The sanctuary was subsequently built here and restored to its present form in 1954.
An interesting detail
The solemn Palm Sunday procession from Bethphage, led by the Latin Patriarch, was renewed in 1933.
