History: Church of the Ascension, Augusta Victoria
The Augusta Victoria complex began with a foundation stone in 1907. Its Church of the Ascension and hospice were dedicated in 1910, although construction continued until 1914. The church on the Mount of Olives underwent a major renovation in 1988–1991.
An interesting detail
The apse mosaic depicts the Ascension with Christ inside a golden mandorla, drawing on Acts 1:1–11.
