The Church of Viri Galilaei belongs to the Greek Orthodox complex known as Little Galilee on the Mount of Olives. The patriarchal residence beside it hosted important encounters between Catholic and Orthodox leaders. The church’s association with the apostles belongs to the site’s devotional tradition.
An interesting detail
In 2014, Pope Francis and Patriarch Bartholomew met here with Patriarch Theophilos, commemorating the 1964 encounter of Paul VI and Athenagoras.
