A brief history
Saint Mark’s is a Syriac Orthodox sanctuary associated by tradition with the house of Mary, mother of John Mark, and the Last Supper. Medieval writings mention a House of Mark. These traditions do not prove an apostolic construction date for the church visible today.
Saints & traditions
The monastery preserves important Syriac manuscripts. Its association with Mary’s house recalls Acts, where Peter finds believers praying after his escape from prison.
