CHURCH BUILDING

Christ Church

Jerusalem · Old City

A brief history

Consecrated on 21 January 1849, Christ Church grew from the nineteenth-century Anglican mission in Jerusalem. Bishop Michael Solomon Alexander began the project but died before its completion. The building reflects the founders’ interest in Christianity’s Jewish origins through its inscriptions and interior decoration.

An interesting detail

Hebrew lettering and Jewish symbols appear on the communion table and windows; the eastern wall also carries the Apostles’ Creed in Hebrew.
