History: Surp Asdvadzadzin Church, Ortaköy
The Armenian Patriarchate traces Ortaköy’s church community to a chapel mentioned in 1665 under the name Surp Giragos. Rebuilt in 1725, it received its dedication to the Mother of God, Surp Asdvadzadzin. The present stone church replaced a wooden predecessor in 1825. Side chapels are dedicated to Saint Stephen and the Holy Trinity. After a substantial renovation, the church was blessed and reopened for worship in 2012.
An interesting detail
A large rose-shaped ceiling ornament frames the point from which the chandelier hangs.
