A brief history
The Cathedral of Saint George stands in the Bab Tuma district of Old Damascus and has been the seat of the Syriac Orthodox Church since 1959. It houses the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch as bishop of the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus.
Saints & traditions
Bab Tuma, the quarter around the cathedral, takes its name from the Gate of Thomas in the old city wall.
