History: Saint Saba Church, Eddé (Batroun)
Historian Ray Jabre Mouawad describes this stone church as a Crusader-period building, probably of the twelfth century. Its medieval wall paintings were damaged by repainting in the 1920s. In 2012–2013, Vladimir Sarabianov's team restored the paintings under antiquities supervision, recovering scenes including the Crucifixion, the Dormition and the Virgin with Child.
An interesting detail
The restored medieval paintings include a Dormition scene and a Virgin with Child.
