Saint Peter and Saint Tabitha Russian Orthodox Church

Jaffa · Tel Aviv-Yafo · Russian Orthodox

A brief history

Consecrated in 1894, this Russian Orthodox church grew within a property developed for pilgrims by Archimandrite Antonin. Nearby ancient tombs became associated by tradition with Tabitha, whom Acts says Peter raised in Joppa. The modern church and the traditional tomb identification are distinct from the biblical narrative.

Saints & traditions

Acts remembers Tabitha through her charitable work: grieving widows showed Peter the garments she had made, before he prayed and called her to rise.

Bible connections

Acts 9:36–43
