A brief history
This Greek Orthodox monastery beside Jaffa’s harbour historically welcomed pilgrims arriving by sea. Patriarch Cyril II refurbished it in 1852. After a devastating fire in 1961, restoration began in 1994 under Archimandrite Damascenos, renewing both the church and the surrounding monastic buildings.
An interesting detail
Pilgrims once rested here before travelling inland to the holy places, then returned to the monastery while waiting for a ship home.
