A brief history

Opened in June 1904, Immanuel Church was built for the German evangelical community in Jaffa’s American-German Colony. Its neo-Gothic architecture reflects that community’s European connections. The building belongs to the modern history of Protestant settlement and worship in Jaffa, rather than to the city’s apostolic period.

An interesting detail

The planned opening was delayed after major benefactor Friedrich Braun died while visiting Jaffa. A memorial inside the church preserves his name.
