A brief history

The Hanging Church rises above the remains of the Roman fortress in Old Cairo. Its interior preserves many periods of Coptic art, including an eleventh-century marble pulpit and icons dating from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries.

An interesting detail

Its name describes its elevated position above the old fort; the wooden ceiling evokes Noah’s Ark.
