A brief history
Abu Serga is an old Coptic basilica dedicated to Saints Sergius and Bacchus within the Roman fortress area of Old Cairo. Its date is debated, and the church has undergone repeated restoration. Its underground sanctuary helped make it an important place of Holy Family devotion.
An interesting detail
Local Christian tradition identifies the cave beneath the church as a resting place of Jesus, Mary and Joseph during their flight into Egypt.
