CHURCH BUILDING
Saint John the Baptist Church
Maadi · Cairo · Anglican / Episcopal

A brief history
Maadi’s Anglican residents raised money in 1929 to replace their makeshift church with a permanent building. Saint John’s foundation stone was laid in April 1930, and its first evensong followed in January 1931. The church subsequently served generations of expatriate and Egyptian residents in the growing suburb.
An interesting detail
Fundraising continued after the building opened: the parish acquired its organ from Edinburgh in 1933, adding a musical link between Maadi and Scotland.
