CHURCH BUILDING
Jesus the Light of the World Church
Old Cairo · Anglican / Episcopal
A brief history
This Old Cairo church was built after the death of missionary Temple Gairdner in 1928 and dedicated to his memory. His work with Egyptian Christians included Arabic publishing, teaching and biblical drama. The church continued that local ministry and also became a place of worship for deaf Christians.
An interesting detail
The diocese records worship here in Egyptian Sign Language as well as Egyptian and Sudanese Arabic, giving the same church several distinct linguistic communities.
