History: St. Dionysius Orthodox Church
St. Dionysius Orthodox Church in Al Ain is an Indian Orthodox church, the first dedicated to Saint Geevarghese Dionysius of Vattasseril, a Malankara Metropolitan whom his church canonised in 2003. Kerala expatriates in Al Ain first met for worship in homes; their congregation became a church in 2003, received land from the UAE’s rulers in 2010, and saw its building, which holds up to 1,500 people, consecrated in 2014.
An interesting detail
It is described as the largest Indian Orthodox church in the Arab region, and part of the saint’s relics is kept there.
