History: First Armenian Evangelical Church
The First Armenian Evangelical Church, on Mexique Street in Beirut’s Kantari district, was the first church founded in Lebanon by Armenian Evangelicals, in February 1922. Its congregation grew among survivors of the Armenian genocide who settled in Beirut in the early 1920s. It met in different places until 1949, when it bought the Mexique Street property; building the sanctuary took about ten years.
An interesting detail
Since 1943 the church has supported the Yeprem and Martha Pilibossian Armenian Evangelical College.
