A brief history
Capuchin missionaries built this small Latin Catholic cathedral and convent in 1864, on the northern slope of Serail Hill beside Bab Idris, one of Beirut's seven historic city gates. It is named after Louis IX of France, the king venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church.

The church is best known for its towering campanile, which stands well above the small building beneath it.
