A brief history
Antonio Barluzzi’s basilica was completed in 1924. Christian tradition places the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor: Jesus appears in glory with Moses and Elijah. The Gospel passage describes a high mountain without naming it.
An interesting detail
The modern basilica occupies the site of a Benedictine monastery from the Crusader period.
