History: Coptic Church of the Annunciation
The Coptic Church of the Annunciation serves Nazareth’s Coptic Orthodox community, which came to the city in the late nineteenth century. It was built in 1952 on the initiative of Patriarch Basil, and all the construction work was done voluntarily by members of the local community. A stone wall with a door crowned by a cross encloses its courtyard, and the two-storey church is flanked by two square three-storey towers with red roofs.
An interesting detail
It shares its dedication with other churches of the Annunciation in Nazareth, including the Catholic basilica and the Maronite church, which are separate buildings.
