History: Saint Bartholomew Church, Cana
The Franciscans built this separate chapel in Kafr Kanna in 1885 to honour Saint Bartholomew, traditionally identified with Nathanael of Cana. It stands about one hundred metres from the Catholic Wedding Church and commemorates the apostle’s calling rather than the wedding miracle.
An interesting detail
John 21:2 identifies Nathanael as coming from Cana in Galilee, the biblical link behind the chapel’s dedication.
