History: Saint Mary Armenian Church, Tehran

Construction of Tehran’s Armenian Saint Mary began in 1938, and the church opened in 1945 after its consecration ceremonies. Architectural historian Maryam Mirzaei documents these separate phases. Alice Navasargian identifies Roman Isaev as its benefactor and places the church beside the former prelacy and Davtian School.

An interesting detail

The Armenian prelacy was formerly based in Saint Mary’s grounds before moving to the grounds of Saint Sarkis Cathedral.
