A brief history
This is the Chaldean Catholic cathedral of Tehran, where the Chaldean rite is followed, and it is also called Saint Joseph Assyrian Catholic Church. It is the seat of the Chaldean Catholic Archeparchy of Tehran, a jurisdiction created in 1853 and moved to Tehran in 1944 under Pope Pius XII. Three cathedrals in the city are easily confused: this one, the Latin-rite Cathedral of the Consolata, and the Armenian Apostolic cathedral of Saint Sarkis. They belong to three different churches.

The Chaldean rite is celebrated in Syriac, a dialect of the Aramaic that Jesus is thought to have spoken.
