History: Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Mary

The Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Mary, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Mother of God, was inaugurated in 1951 to serve Tehran’s Greek community, which numbered about 3,000 people in the 1960s and 1970s, before the 1979 revolution. It stood at the corner of Roosevelt and Takht-e Jamshid streets, which were renamed Taleghani and Mofatteh after the revolution.

An interesting detail

Its full Greek dedication is to the Annunciation of the Theotokos, the Mother of God.
