History: Saint Sarkis Church, Tabriz

Saint Sarkis is a Qajar-era Armenian Apostolic church in the Baron Avak neighbourhood of Tabriz. Built in 1845 with funding from the Petrossian family, it stands in the courtyard of the Tamarian Armenian school, whose building was later extended to add the Sahakian School. The Haykazyan school, which stood opposite, closed after it was damaged in the Iran–Iraq War.

An interesting detail

It is a separate building from the Saint Sarkis churches of Tehran and Khoy, which have their own profiles in this guide.
