History: Holy Sign Church, Gharghan
Holy Sign, also called Surp Nshan, is an Armenian church in Gharghan village in the Fereydan region. A Tasnim field report dates its construction to 1903 from surviving wooden inscriptions and identifies it as a late Qajar building. The report also records its inclusion in Iran’s national heritage register under number 19862 in 2007.
An interesting detail
Timber columns carry the church’s wooden roof above its brick interior. The 2018 field report also documents older religious paintings on the walls and small guest rooms within the surrounding church compound.
