History: Saint Mary Church, Upper Khoygan
The Armenian Soviet Encyclopedia dates Saint Mary Church in Khoygan to 1892, distinguishing it from the village’s churches of Saint John and Saint Nerses. In a 2017 photographic report, Nazik Armenakyan documented prayer and the caretaker Anahit Barseghian at Saint Mary in Upper Khoygan. The Armenian Diocese of Isfahan also recorded an Assumption liturgy here on 21 August 2026.
An interesting detail
At the Assumption service documented in August 2026, pilgrims brought bunches of grapes to Saint Mary. The grapes were blessed after the liturgy and distributed among the congregation.
