History: Saint Nicholas Church, New Julfa
Saint Nicholas is an Armenian Apostolic church in the Gharagel neighbourhood of New Julfa, Isfahan. Built in 1630, it was first dedicated, like several New Julfa churches, to Saint Mary, and was renamed in 1779 when a relic of the right hand of Saint Nicholas was brought here. A chapel of Saint Stephen was built in its courtyard in 1774, and the church was renovated in 1916 and 1955.
An interesting detail
One tombstone in the courtyard belongs to Khoja Minas, who was burnt alive on the orders of Nader Shah.
