History: Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church, New Julfa
Saint Gregory the Illuminator is an Armenian Apostolic church in the Small Meidan neighbourhood of New Julfa, Isfahan. The merchant Khoja Minas built it in 1633, and his grandson added a summer, open-air chapel in 1714. The church holds many khachkars, carved cross-stones, some of them dated 1641, 1643 and 1646.
An interesting detail
Tombstones in the courtyard include the founder’s and others that record the killings by Afghans in 1722.
