CHURCH BUILDING

Saint Mary Church

Masarra · Shubra · Cairo · Coptic Orthodox

A brief history

Parish records trace the project to a fundraising meeting in 1922. Pope Cyril V opened a temporary wooden chapel in November 1923; the permanent church’s cornerstone followed in November 1924, as Shubra’s congregation developed its own place of worship.

Saints & traditions

Before becoming Pope Shenouda III, Nazeer Gayed preached here and participated in its spiritual association, according to the parish’s account of its ministry.
