History: Saint Demetrius Greek Orthodox Church, Nablus
The Patriarchate of Jerusalem attributes this church’s construction to Patriarch Cyril around 1850. Its own account of Nablus distinguishes Saint Demetrius in the old city from the newer Annunciation church in Rafidia. In November 2016 Patriarch Theophilos celebrated the patron saint’s feast here with the local Orthodox congregation.
An interesting detail
The 2016 feast report describes Greek chanting from the right choir and Arabic chanting from the left, recording the two languages within the same liturgy.
