History: Saint Mesrop Armenian Church, Rasht

Rasht’s Armenian community built its replacement church in the spacious courtyard of the Armenian school on Saadi Street. An original ISNA report dates that construction to 1345 in the Solar Hijri calendar, corresponding to 1966–67. The school compound became the church’s setting after the earlier market-area church had burned.

An interesting detail

The church’s school compound also contains a theatre hall, linking the religious building with the Armenian community’s educational and cultural spaces.
