History: Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen

The Melkite Patriarchate identifies Yabroud’s cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen as a church reusing a former temple of Jupiter. Its account attributes the transfer to Christians to Saint Helen; this is an ecclesiastical tradition, not a verified construction date for all the standing fabric. The cathedral belongs to the church jurisdiction created by the unification of Homs, Qara and Yabroud in 1849.

An interesting detail

The Syrian archaeological encyclopedia reproduces an icon of Christ’s Ascension from this cathedral, documenting its contribution to Syria’s Christian icon tradition.
