A brief history
This Syriac Catholic monastic community sits on the eastern slopes of the Anti-Lebanon mountains about 80 kilometres north of Damascus, near the town of Nabk. It is named for Moses the Black. The main church of the compound holds an important programme of wall paintings dating to the eleventh and twelfth centuries.
An interesting detail
The monastery is reached on foot, by a long flight of steps up the side of the valley.
