History: National Evangelical Presbyterian Church

Latakia's Presbyterian congregation grew from a nineteenth-century mission. Its present church carries a marble inscription dating construction to 1923–1924, after Khalil Awad became the congregation's first Syrian pastor in 1921. In February 2023, the church opened its halls to people frightened by earthquake aftershocks and joined relief work in the city.

An interesting detail

The construction plaque gives the dates in Arabic and English, uses the abbreviation R.P. Church, and includes a line from Psalm 46:5.
