CHURCH BUILDING

Church of Saint Anne

Jerusalem · Catholic

A brief history

Crusaders built this Romanesque basilica in the twelfth century. The Missionaries of Africa, also called White Fathers, welcome visitors today.

Saints & traditions

Tradition associates the site with Mary’s parents, Anne and Joachim; this is not a canonical Gospel identification.

Bible connections

The healing account concerns the neighbouring pool of Bethesda, not the medieval basilica.

John 5:1–9
