A brief history

Consecrated in 1872, Holy Trinity Cathedral formed part of the Russian Compound developed outside Jerusalem’s Old City in the nineteenth century. The complex brought together church, mission and pilgrim facilities. Its history records Russian Orthodox pilgrimage and institutional presence rather than a biblical event at this location.

An interesting detail

The cathedral and mission property were excluded from the 1964 sale of other Russian Compound properties to Israel, preserving the church’s separate institutional continuity.
